Creating a Tropical Patterned Paper with Kira

September 21, 2018

What do you start with when creating a scrapbook layout?  The story?  The picture?  The product?  It definitely varies for me, but today, I just had to start with these adorable pictures of my oldest son.  My husband is a mail carrier on an all walking route in the extreme heat of San Antonio.  He ordered a few hats from work recently, one being this goofy, safari type hat.  My son immediately assumed it was for him, and started running around with his “jungle hat”.  (Also, my son rarely has clothes on because its like a million degrees here. #sorrynotsorry).

I knew that the Frond of You stamp set would be perfect for my “jungle” themed page.  I started by choosing some colors that I thought would coordinate well with the new Amy Tangerine Shine On collection.  I used a pink, coral, yellow and teal for my large palm fronds.  And then used black for the smaller palm fronds.

I started with the lightest color, and worked my way to the darkest, overlapping the colors as I went.  Then after I had worked my way up the page, I went back in to fill in any gaps I had in my pattern.  I finished off the pattern with the small, black leaves.

Then I trimmed down my paper to 3.75″ wide.  I layered a piece of Amy Tangerine paper beneath my frond paper, and stitched them to my white background.  I added my title down the right side of my paper.  And added some embellishments around the page.  To tie in the frond paper, I stamped the largest leaf in teal, and fussy cut it out to create a piece of ephemera.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

xo, Kira
