First Time using Copic Markers with Kira

May 6, 2018

Hey everyone!  It’s Kira and guess what?!  I got some Copics.  I never thought I would fall down this rabbit hole, yet here I am.  My (very generous) friend gifted me all of her Copics, and while I am no expert, I sure am having fun playing with them.

I started this layout as coloring practice, but ended up liking my practice so much I decided to make a layout (if you’re a Copic whizz…please refrain from mocking my newbie coloring.  Lol).  So I stamped a few of the flowers from Chin Up Buttercup with some Black Momento ink.  Then I picked out markers in all the colors of the rainbow.

All the tutorials I have been watching talk about having three shades of every color.  But three just wasn’t working for me.  Once I ditched the third color, I was much happier with my results.

I ended up coloring six flowers in each color.  Then I fussy cut them all out.  At this point, I wasn’t entirely sure what direction I was planning to go in, but as I laid all the fussy cut flowers on my page, I felt a wreath design would look best.

I first drew a circle on my paper (I used a dinner plate that is about 10″) and then started placing my flowers around the layout in rainbow order.  I keep all of my ephemera color coordinated as well, so it was easy to pull out pieces I thought worked well with each color.

I gave my layout some dimension by adding some foam behind some of my flowers.  I also added other dimensional pieces like flair and a bow.  I added my photo and then added a few sequins in every color scattered around the page.

I am super happy with how this layout came out!  If you have any tips or tricks for improving my copic coloring, feel free to let me know!  Thanks for stopping by!

xo, Kira
