Happy Birthday Balloon Card

May 20, 2020

Hello! I’m so excited to share today’s card with you. It’s one of those cards that I had an idea and I ran with it. There were some obstacles, but I figured it out along the way!

For this card I used a combination of Lucy Happy Mail and Mari Party to create a FUN and one of a kind birthday card. This is a slim line card and the final size is 3.5″ w x 8.5″ h (this will fit in a #9, typically used to send 8.5″ x 11″ folded documents).

First I stamped out my hedgehog. I had to do a little stamp surgery to get her the way I wanted. None of the hedgehogs had open arms like she does, so I masked off her one arm and drew it in after stamping.

Next, I began by coloring in the sweet hedgehog and the cluster of balloons.

Now it was time for a background, I ink blended a few distress ink colors with a cloud stencil. Of course it had to be a rainbow color scheme.

WIth those same inks, I smooshed them on an ink pad and picked them up with water and a brush. I splattered the colors in their designated sections covering over the other sections while splattering. I also blended and splattered a green piece (to use for grass).

I die cut the grass twice and adhered it to my card background. The popped up my hedgehog and placed her in the grass. I also popped up the balloons and added them to the sky.

I hand drew balloon strands, placing some into the hedgehogs hands.

I completed the card by stamping “Happy Birthday” from Mari Party in black in and placing it on a white card front (trimming my sides down by 1/8″).

I’m delighted how this card turned out! I love all things rainbow and this background with the balloons and hedgehog make me so giddy!
