Making the most of your Ink Road Stamps!

February 26, 2018

Hello, Samantha here – back with a few geometric patterned cards that I created after thinking outside the box a little!

I was bummed that I didn’t get a chance to use Ink Road Stamps – Fir Real set before Christmas. The tree stamps are gorgeous and you should all know by now how much I love stamping patterns. I also have a huge stash of Christmas, Valentines, Easter etc. stamps that just sit in their packaging to only get used once a year…so I was determined to figure out a way to use this set! After staring at it for a bit, I realised a simple masking technique would turn those trees into a triangular geometric shape that I could work into an awesome background…

Here is the first card:

I chose a monochrome colour scheme for these cards – using Altenew inks because they’ve done all the hard work by picking four shades of ink colours that work well in a monochromatic way.  The first two cards are a simple dark to light (vice versa) stamping process, masking off the bottoms of the trees as I stamped starting at the top (darkest shade of ink) working down my card front (medium shades of ink) and finishing at the bottom (lightest shade of ink).

The next two cards I play around with ink placement – the first I stamped a diagonal monochrome pattern and the last card I stamped quite randomly (still thinking patterns) but unintentionally created a diamond in the center.

I enjoyed stamping and masking out these cards. The patterns are mesmerising to look at and I really like the monochrome look. I added gold embossing powder using a embossing pen. I really wanted each card to pop with specks of gold and the embossing gives it a little texture (so these cards also feel nice!). I used both Ink Road stamps: Compliments Vol. 1 and Vol 2. for the sentiments, again heat embossing these in gold on black card and adhering them to gold glitter card – I added more gold features with twine and sequins…

Yup! These cards are all about patterns and gold – and using holiday stamps in a non holiday way…

Think outside the box and try this masking technique with your fir real stamp set – I’d love to see what patterns you can create!
