Mixed Media Easter Eggs with Kira

April 10, 2018

Hello friends!  It’s Kira and I am back with a 12×12 layout using a technique that is not very typical of my style:  mixed media!!  I’m still in shock that I was able to pull it off!

I just had to use the Egg-stra stamp set to document our Easter last year.  I started by finding an acrylic block that was about the same size as the largest egg in the stamp set.  Then I picked out a variety of inks in rainbow colors.  I stamped the ink directly on the stamp block, then added a tiny bit of water and made an oval shaped blob of ink-y water (totally technical terms here, I know).

I kept my egg splotches in rainbow order and stamped over my entire sheet of 12×12 paper.  Then I used the same inks, and stamped the egg stamp on some vellum.  After letting the ink dry for a bit, I fussy cut each of the eggs out.

After the eggs were cut out, I adhered them over their corresponding colors with just a tiny drop of glue.  Then I took my sewing machine and stitched vertically over them three times.

After the background was finished, it was just a matter of embellishing my page.  The eggs did most of the work for me, so I added some tiny alpha stickers to spell out “Easter 2017” and stitched over them directly on my photo.  And added a few stickers, some popped up on foam and some directly to the page.  You can watch my entire process here.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Until next time,
