Princess Ron Swanson – Shimmer Powder Watercoloring

January 11, 2019

Hi Roadies!! Ashlea here and I’m so happy to be back here with you after our little break! Today I’ve got a fun card for you using the brand new Earresistable stamp set mixed with Snarks and Recreation because WHY NOT?!

For some reason, the moment I saw the list of princess names I thought of the Ron Swanson stamp, and it just went from there. To create the background I used Nuvo Shimmer Powders. It’s all the rave lately and I want to love them so much, but honestly, I’m having a bit of a hard time using them and getting great backgrounds like everyone else seems to. I used Violet Brocade for this card because I loved that there were so many different colors in one powder.

I applied the powder to an already wet piece of watercolor card stock so that it already started the movement of the powder. To create even more movement and blending, I sprayed more water directly onto  the powder and let it flow and dry naturally. I was a little disappointed in the lack of color differentiation overall but I love the shimmer that I get from using the powders. I think the more I use the shimmer powder the happier I’ll be with the outcome.

After heat embossing the sentiment in white over the background, I stamped the Ron Swanson image and the girl mouse ears on top of his head. I then included a fussy cut red bow on top to make the bow pop and adhered it all to the card front.

I hope that you’ve enjoyed learning a bit about how I created this card! I would love to hear if you’ve used Shimmer Powders and how they’ve worked for you. I hope you have a fabulous weekend and I’ll see you again very soon!
