Hi Everyone! I have 1 son and 2 daughters and find that I tend to do more pages of my girls than my son. Lately I have been on a roll making boy layouts. My son is a musician and when I saw the stars on the Boymom stamp set I was completely inspired to create a rock star layout!
To start, I created my background. I knew I wanted to have a large star in the center with the star stamps coming out of it. So I started playing around with the stars from the Boymom stamp set. I decided to use all of the Distress Oxide ink colors that I have (Picked Raspberry, Seedless Preserves, Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon, Blueprint Sketch). I went around with the full star stamp and filled in as much as I could.
There were still quite a few spaced when I was finished so I decided to cut my stamp apart. Shock, horror, I know. But these stamps work with no problems as long as you cut in-between the raised stamp part. Once the massacre was over, I used my newly separated star stamps to fill in the gaps.
To add some more visual interest, I used the straight line stamp from the Between The Lines set to stamp in black StazOn ink around the outer edge. I wanted to give the shooting star type movement and thought this would work for that. It didn’t turn out exactly as I had imagined but I am happy with the effect!
Next, I used a cut file from Virginia Walker to create the giant 3D star to go in the center. I drew some black lines down the creases in the star to pull in some black. That wasn’t enough so I also did some black stitching around the star. This was the perfect way to draw your eye into the layout.
To finish the layout, I backed my photo with some Blue Raspberry Cardstock Warehouse cardstock and about 4 layers of fun foam. The star was quite dimensional so I had to build up the photo to match. I added my title and some silver wooden stars. Last, I added the “that’s my boy” stamp under the photo.
