Treat Yo’self and others with gift cards by Erica

October 12, 2018

Hi guys!

It’s Erica back on the Ink Road Stamps blog today, with two quick but fun cards. These are both stamped with the sentiment ‘Treat yo’self’ from the Snarks & Recreation set and have little pockets on the inside to add a gift card or certificate.

A gift card is always a handy present as the recipient can then pick out their own present. It can feel a bit ‘little’ to give though so why not dress up a card and make it a surprise?

My first card is super simple and this design can be changed to fit the favourite colour of the recipient. Just switch out the Copic/marker you use to draw the lines. I have used a black one for this card as black and white is a rather classic combo.

I used my craft mat as a guide to keep the spaced between the lines relatively the same. In between the card and the mat I placed a sheet of acetate to protect the mat from Copic stains. Cheap and so useful! I drew each line twice with the marker until the whole front was covered.

In the bottom right corner, I used an anti-static tool to avoid stray embossing powder. I stamped the sentiment in VersaMark ink and then sprinkled WOW! Embossing powder in Rose Glintz. After pre-heating my heat tool, I quickly swept it over the powder to melt it. Don’t over-heat the paper as it will warp the card stock and make your card wobbly.

I might do the sentiment in Gold Tinsel next time though as it didn’t show up as much as I had hoped.

On the inside of the card, I made a little pocket and adhered that with double sided tape. See? Super simple!

The second card is done by stamping the sentiment in black in on the front and heat embossing clear embossing powder over it.

Using Glossy Accent as glue, I “drew” fat lines streaking out from the sentiment and then drizzled the sprinkle looking embellishments all over them.

As this is a panel and not done directly on the card base, I could work on that and add the pocket while it was drying. Covering the front with double sided tape makes it all ready to add the panel once it’s dry, and saving a bit of time. You could adhere the panel first but then if it goes wrong you have wasted a card base. Crafty waste is the worst!

Apart from drying time, which is very fast with Glossy Accent, the card was done! How fun does that look?? I think a gift certificate to an ice cream parlour or bakery would be perfect for this card!

I realise just now as I’m finishing this off, that I have not showed the inside of these cards. Very sorry about that, but in all honesty, the pocket itself is not much. It’s just a piece of card stock cut at an angle and adhered with double-sided tape. Not very exciting or rocket-science-y. Handy and quick, but not overly difficult to achieve. Perfect for those last-minute gift cards and certificates.

That’s it from me for today, I hope you have found this post inspiring. Or at least helpful to keep in mind for those last-minute gifts we all somehow end up needing, despite our best planning.

Lots of love and happy crafting from Erica
